As a result of years-long research at the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, Heidelberg, into the mechanisms of viral activation, the focus of the scientific interest of BioSphings is the function of enzymes called phospholipases.
The findings of this research suggested a role for phospholipases in signal transduction events taking place in viral actication and in the onset of autoimmundiseases and cancer.
Drugs interfering with the acivity of phospholipases have been developed and tested in animal models and clinical trials.
The work performed at DKFZ Heidelberg resulted in several scientific papers and innovative drug patents, which have been acquired by BioSphings. In return, the DKFZ Heidelberg will have shares in BioSphings.
